The 13th Saemia Elections 2018

This year’s elections will be held on 6 October and are open to all citizens of Latvia who are 18 years of age or older.

Vote in person:
If you are a Latvian living abroad, you can cast your vote here in New Zealand at our Saeima election polling station from 7:00am – 8:00pm on the day of the election.

The polling station will be set up at the office of the Auckland Hon Consul at the following address:

You will be registered to vote at the polling stations by presenting your Latvian passport, which will be marked to reflect that your vote has been made.

Voting by mail:
You can also submit your vote by mail. Applications for voting by mail must be submitted in advance between the 5th of May and the 14th of September to any of the 16 polling stations registered for postal voting. 

For those voting from New Zealand, we recommend the Embassy of Latvia in Japan, as it is closest.

Instructions for voting by mail:

  1. Fill out, sign and send an application form (*see here for English translation guide) by post together with valid Latvian citizen’s passport to the Embassy of Latvia in Japan at the following address:

    *Please note, the application form and passport must be submitted to the Embassy by September 14.

    ** The form with English translation is just for reference, please make sure you complete and submit the official application form.

    ***We suggest the use of registered post, as the Embassy does not bear responsibility for documents, such as passports, that are sent via post.


  2. When the Embassy receives your application form and passport, they will register you for voting. Your passport will be stamped and sent back to you with the voting papers and instruction on how to proceed further.

  3. Once you have received your voting papers, please fill in your vote and return the papers to the Embassy of Latvia in Tokyo by October 6 at the latest, preferably – before that. We kindly suggest to do that as soon as possible, as votes received after October 6 will not be counted.
